Tyson Foods loses lawsuit that claims its deceptive practices bankrupted growers

Tyson as the world’s second largest food processor and marketer of chicken, beef and pork, uses its economic power to force McCurtain Country’s 50 chicken growers into growing chickens at a low cost. This had costs hundreds of families into bankruptcy and foreclosure. The chicken growers were verbally and financially pressured by Tyson to use loan money for chicken houses constructions, but Tyson then paid them at a price that is less needed to break even. In terms of financial pressures, Tyson tried to place its growers under a huge debt loads which made growers hesitant to refuse any of Tyson’s demands. And the end, Tyson must to pay a total of $7.3 million to the 10 of the 50 growers who filled a lawsuit. And the McCurtain County officials are assessing all options to prevent this from happening again in the future.

  • Most companies today do play this sick little game of making as much profit as possible without regards to the people they'd be screwing over.  Its Tyson's arrogance and incompetent leadership that has lead them to this situation.  Tyson deserves the punishment they've been given.

  • This is a serious matter. I think Tyson has no right to put pressure on growers. It's about time that officials are considering assessing options to prevent Tyson's negative actions towards growers. Hopefully, Tyson will come to realize that growers deserve more in return for what they've been providing Tyson.

  • I am glad that the county officials are taking actions in this unethical act by Tyson Foods. We are in a country of freedom and all competitors should have equal rights to compete in the market. It is unfair for large company to manipulate the market.

  • What Tyson did was unethical. However, it would be naive to say that other corporations are not just as unethical for financial gain. It just so happens that Tyson was caught and will now face consequences for their actions.

  • I agree that this is awful. However the fact is that in a capitalist society this is what all major corporations do. I'm not defending their actions but all the major coomplanies such as Nike do anything and everything to cut costs even at the cost of American jobs. The sole purpose of these companies is to make as much profit as possible. I'm glad that Tyson had to pay for what they did though
